US Ambassador's Historic Visit to ASB

United States Ambassador for Spain, Alan D. Solomont, visited the American School of Barcelona after the school's students had sent 660 letters to President Obama inviting him to see how they serve their community. The extensive volunteering program at ASB had already been featured last November on "United We Serve", a website established by the White House encouraging community service.

The Ambassador, who assumed his post in January after serving as Chairman of the bipartisan Board of Directors of the Corporation for National and Community Service in Washington D.C., said he wanted to honor the students for their community service accomplishments. After visiting several classrooms, leading a question and answer period with students, and addressing the whole school, he gave ASB Director, Mark Pingitore, a giant poster from President Obama which says "Congratulations on a job well done!"
