The Middle School programs have been designed to build a strong bridge between the single classroom environment of the Elementary school and the multidimensional world of the High School. The goal is not only to build the academic skills required for this transition, but to also help develop the emotional and social skills that become an important part in the success of these young learners. There is a strong focus on the individual needs of each student and ASB strives
to find the program that best helps each student develop their own potential.
The academic program includes the standard American curricular subjects and gives students the option to fulfill the Spanish co-validation requirements by taking Castellano, Catalan and Spanish Social Studies. Support is available for students with special language needs through our English Language Learner and Spanish Language Learner programs. ASB also has full time staff to support moderate special education and learning needs.
The Middle School teaching team works as a close unit to develop cross-curricular projects. Students experience that each subject does not stand alone and their learning is enhanced through activities that extend beyond the classroom and often beyond the school's walls.
One of the strengths of the Middle School program is the Advisory program, which focuses on developing the academic, emotional and social skills in these young teenagers. Through presentations, study groups and guided activities, the students work with their experienced advisors to gain insight into issues that they are confronting as they mature.
The ASB Middle School also boasts one of the most active Student Council groups in the school. The council supports community service activities both within the school and in the local communities.
