In order to apply for the American School of Barcelona, please complete the steps below:
1. Pay the non-refundable application fee (100 Euros for ECC and Elementary School; 170 Euros for Middle School and High School). Click here for bank account information.
2. You can apply online , or you may download our application form and submit it to us by fax, email, courier or regular mail. Note: a separate application must be made for each child
3. Whether you are applying online or submitting your application by email, fax, courier, or regular mail, you must send us the following accompanying documents:
Submit a passport-size or ID-size photo.
Transcripts or report cards from the student's most recent schools attended.
- ECC applicants: from current or most recent kindergarten or pre-school (if possible).
- Elementary applicants: report cards from current school year AND previous year.
- Secondary applicants: report cards from past three years.
Download our confidential recommendation forms. These should be sent to us confidentially and directly by the teachers.
- ECC applicants: one PK3-K5 form from a recent teacher, educator or physician.
- Elementary applicants: one grade 1-12 reference letter form from the applicant's most recent main classroom teacher.
- Secondary applicants: one grade 1-12 reference letter form from an English teacher AND another from a Math teacher.
If applicable, submit standardized test scores (e.g. Stanford 10, ISA, ITBS, ERB, STAR, SSAT, PSAT, SAT).
Submit a photocopy of vaccination record.
Submit a photocopy of applicant's passport, birth certificate, or libro de familia.
Submit ASB Emergency and Medical Form
Submit Applicant Questionnaire (applicants for grades 6 to 12 only).
4. School's Response
After payment has been received and the documents have been reviewed, the school will give you one of the following responses:
Acceptance: You will be given instructions about the payment of the registration fee, the capital levy and tuition fees, plus the optional lunch and bus fees. We will also give you information about your child's first day of school.
Waiting: You will be informed that your child has been accepted, but that he or she may be placed on the waiting list if you pay the registration fee.
More information needed: If we feel that we do not have enough information to make a decision, we may request more information in the form of a clarification of documents, additional documents, a meeting, or evaluative testing. If we request testing, in some cases it must be done in Barcelona, but in others it can be done from anywhere in the world via the internet.
Non-acceptance: We will notify you as soon as possible if your child is not accepted to ASB.
5. Enrollment and First Day of School.
Once fees have been paid, the student will be enrolled in classes and parents will be notified of the first day of school. If the student starts at the beginning of the year, there will be an orientation day the day before the first day of school. The new family will have a chance to become familiar with the school, pay any outstanding fees to our Business Office and provide us with their most recent contact information.
